We were cleaning out some old boxes this week and came across this old magazine that ADP was featured in back in 2002. It is incredible how so little has changed about our philosophies on how we treat our customers and builders. One big change we have made since 2002 is widening the variety of stones we sell to include more solid surface / corian countertops and quartz countertops.

The tiny home project was completed by Integrity Remodeling & Custom Homes, Inc. of Oviedo, Florida. The custom quartz countertop surfaces used in the home were manufactured and installed by ADP Surfaces.

How to care for granite countertops and other countertop maintenance tips!

Granite countertops are known for its strength, durability, and beauty, and its unique natural features can give areas a majestic feel. Compared to others countertops such as wood, laminates, and others, it most certainly is more enduring. Although granite has proven its reliability, it is not without fault.

A good way to give a longer life duration to your countertops is to practice proper maintaining and cleaning procedures. Don’t place unnecessary extra weight, standing or sitting on your counter tops. Cleaning up all spills immediately after they happen, especially with substances such as wine, oils, coffee, vinegar, etc… Avoid cutting directly on the countertop, remember to use a cutting board as well as utilizing hot pads and perhaps also trivets and coasters as necessary.

The first thing to know regarding cleaning your granite top is not to use acidic or abrasive products such as sandpaper, Comet, Soft Scrub, as well as similar products. Another surprising abrasive substance that people might not be aware of is sand carried on grocery bags that will scratch the surface unknowingly to owners. Windex works well, but it tends to leave visible streak marks. A dry rag following the actual application usually takes care of them. Cornstarch works well on unrelenting oil spills by applying it to the spill area, leaving it to settle for a day and then vacuum. Ammonia and bleach will not harm granite, however, given time it will gradually remove the sealer from the stone. “Trade secrets”— For smudges, you may utilize a fine grade (000 or finer) steel wool. Its effectiveness is quite surprising! Also, at times a sharp razor similar to glass cleaning in combination with hot water works well for removing dried on surface substances.

One highly recommended task is periodically applying granite sealer, especially around the areas of cooktops and sinks. Sealing the stone prevents grease and water from soaking into the tiny pores of the stone. Sealing the stone usually depends on the type of stone whether they are darker or lighter as well as its location and usage. Some may have to be sealer regularly from anywhere from once a month, to a year in places like restaurants. Others may never need to be sealed like those located in book shelves. A good way to tell when the granite needs sealant is when moisture begins to darken the stone significantly.

ADP Surfaces and RX Builders 2014 Project

This is a gallery of images taken from a beautiful home built by RX Builders (also known as Bill Cook Luxury Homes). The project was built in Winter Park, Florida, in the outskirts of Orlando. The project features many different types of countertop materials, from granite, quartz and solid surface around the home.

Home Interior Design Orlando

The house was built in the style of a Frank Lloyd Wright Home, with luxury in mind borrowing influences from both modern and traditional design. The theme of the home was for it to be “warm modern” meaning it takes mostly the modern design cues, but borrows some traditional elements to make it more comfortable.

The kitchen / dining room features a 50″ Ceasarstone Quartz dining room table, and dark granite countertops with undermount sinks.

The several bathrooms in the home feature a wide variety of materials from Corian, Quartz and Granite and a wide variety of style from modern to traditional.

Granite Countertops, What You Should Know Before Purchasing.

To help our customers in their search, we asked our sales team what they thought was important for customers to know before purchasing granite countertops for the first time.

1. Ask for granite samples, or bring in samples of your home.

If possible, ask for color samples of the stone to compare the color of your kitchen and the color of your cabinets. Some granite materials have flecks of metal in them, such as our “Volga Blue Granite“. Bringing a sample home, you will be able to see how light refracts from your lighting fixtures and the natural lighting in your home. If there are no samples, bring your samples of things such as your curtains, cabinets, paint swatches, or even favorite countertop accessories such as stand mixers. Sometimes it is difficult to visualize how the end product will turn out, but bringing samples will help you eliminate colors that will clash with your kitchen.

2. Touch and get a feel of the different edge profiles.

Make sure to select the right countertop edge profile for the style of your kitchen. ADP offers several edge profiles standard in their pricing packages, so you will be able to select the edge profile that compliments your kitchen. We recommend using an eased edge profile because it gives the stone the right appearance of thickness without being sharp to the touch. If our standard options are not what you are looking for, we also offer premium edge profiles. Ogee edged countertops compliment cabinets with detailed scroll-work and mitered/laminated edges will make your stone appear at least twice as thick.

3. Do your research on maintenance and other options for countertops.

Have a realistic idea of how to maintain and care for granite countertops. While granite is an incredibly durable material, it is still a pourous natural stone that will need to be resealed and cared for properly in order to keep it looking new. If you think the upkeep for granite will be difficult for your lifestyle, you should see if there is a better stone for your countertops. 4. Have a good idea of what you like before shopping for material.

Sometimes this is as easy as knowing that you prefer dark countertops over light countertops, or that you would prefer a black countertop to pair with your white kitchen cabinets.
